Freezer Meal Review #1

Yes you are seeing this correctly.
I am posting two days in a row.
Go me!

Right before school started, I spent loads of time on Pinterest researching freezer meals, planning for freezer meals and making freezer meals.
I am not going to lie; it feels awesome to spend a total of 5 minutes working on dinner each night.
However, I was pretty apprehensive about some of the recipes.
Mostly recipes that my husband found.
A friend of his posted some freezer meals she makes, and David really wanted some of them.
After two very disappointing meals, I announced that she eats like crap and I don't trust her food judgement.

I am not going to post about meals I hated. That is what the comment section of those blogs are for. I want to use this post to show off some really good recipes I have made from my own recipes and from ones found on the web.

On to the review!
I have always enjoyed chicken pot pie.
However for me growing up chicken pot pie came in boxes that looked like this:

The days of boxed chicken pot pie are OVER thanks to this recipe.
It is super simple to put together and freezes really well.
The only things I think I will do differently next time are:
1. Do 2 jars (4 cups) of gravy.
2. Add one more pie crust to the top... I have a crust problem. I am looking into rehabs.

Let me tell you about how easy it is to put together:
Step 1:  3 days before you cook the meal, pull filling and pie crusts out of your freezer to thaw (our fridge takes forever to thaw something)
Step 2: Come home from work starving and tired. Pull out freezer meal and pie crusts.
Step 3: Put one pie crust on the bottom of a baking dish. Put the filling on top of that. Put another pie crust on top of that.
Step 4: Pop that stuff in the oven to bake for 40 minutes and plop yourself on the couch for a moment of peace before the other inhabitants of your house realize you are resting and need you.

Step 5: Eat. Go to bed happy.

You totally need to try this recipe. It has already been requested for next month.

(Did you know you can follow what I am cooking on pinterest?)

Let's Catch Up

Oh man.
I am so glad the last few weeks are over.
I am going to take this all the way back to August 8th.
This summer my school had the asbestos removed and the floors redone.
Basically we were unable to get into the school all summer.
On Friday, August 8th we got the call that we could come back!
I skipped all over the new floors to get to my new room.
Only to find it full of cafeteria tables.
Whomp Whomp.

On Tuesday they got the tables out of my room, and I went to town on all the boxes.
Did I mention this was my second year in a row taking over a class for a retiring teacher?
Yeah. Let's talk about teachers.
We are hoarders.
No.Joke.

I have an obnoxious amount of paper clips too.

This was the first standardized test I took.

FLOPPY DISKS?!

Anyway. My room was no where near being ready when inservice started the Monday after school opened, and some how the keys to my file cabinets went missing. I may or may not have skipped going to lunch Monday with my peers to sit in my room and cry.

I rallied though and by Monday, August 25th my room looked like this:

Ignore all the unpacked boxes and broken down boxes. Our ESL assistant had to go in for gallbladder surgery and hasn't gotten a chance to finish unpacking.

Do you like my bunting?

I am going to have some for sale on my Etsy store soon. YAY!
I will also have some stuff that looks like this:
I love Halloween so much.

When it comes to quilting, I have been having some fun with 9 patches.

The disappearing 9 patch is in Lula Magnolia from Riley Blake.
To me it just screams Florida.
I would move to Florida in a heart beat.
I am in love with this fabric.

Teachers Pay Teachers Sale

I mentioned earlier that I am a teacher by day.
In order to bring in some extra cash, I have a Teachers Pay Teachers store.
To celebrate back to school, I am participating a back to school sale, so head on over to my store and load up and on digital scrapbooking papers and fun file folder games.
Be sure to use the code BTS14.

Inspiration Friday

On Wednesday, one of my sweet hearts came into summer school and promptly threw up on me.
Thursday, I made it through the last day of summer school and 3 hours of staff development before I started throwing up.
So today I have been laying on the couch watching Daria, sipping Gatorade and aimlessly pinning.
(Did you know you can find me on Pinterest here.)
Since I am just waiting on the couch for David to come home and entertain me, I thought I would share some inspiration I have going into the weekend:

I am loving the dainty little polka dots, and that gold accent is just lovely.

I think succulents just look whimsical.

I love Disney. I love Mickey Premium Bars. I love not growing up.

My in-laws are in Florida setting up their condo right now. They love silly statues and they recently bought a flamingo which they named Florence. I am thinking this color scheme would go perfectly with their new friend.

Can anyone spot the quilt block inspiration in this one?

I just told David that the only thing I will accept for dinner are McDonalds French Fries.
He agreed to stop on his way home.
My hero.

My Alter Ego

I hope all of you are having a fantastic weekend.
David and I got to go to our friends annual pool party this weekend.
It was so much fun.
We are so lucky to have an amazing group of friends.

Anyway onto the actual post.
I am not lucky enough to have made quilting into my career, so how do I make a living you ask?
I am a teacher.

Last year I taught PPCD (Public Preschool for Children with Disabilities), and this year I will be teaching resource. I am pretty excited about the change, and I have been thinking of how I am going to organize my life in general when the school year starts.
I started hearing a lot about Erin Condren Life Planners at the beginning of the summer. Then I just kept on hearing about her planners, so (literally) 30 minutes ago I ordered my life planner.

Be prepared for a full review when it comes in.
Also be prepared for a peek at my back to school swag.

You guys are going to love it.

Here is a sneak peek at it :)

Stay tuned.

Well Hello There

I hate writing.
I blame standardized testing.

I never kept a journal growing up, and the only writing I have kept up with on a regular basis is writing in a day planner. I am a micro manager.

In the past year, I have tackled some huge beasts.
I got married.
I completed my first year of teaching.
I am making my first position change at school.
I turned 23.
I watched the entire series of House M.D
...and Trailer Park Boys
... for the eighth and ninth time.
AND I made my first quilt.

For my first post, I want to tell you my quilting story; well my beginners story.

My best friends house was covered in quilts that her mom had made. I loved it. Sometimes when I went over, I just wanted to look at them.

So when I turned 17, I asked her mom to teach me, and she patiently did.
She taught me how to use a rotary cutter, and square up fabric.

But by the end of the lesson, my 17 year old brain didn't have the attention span to make a WHOLE quilt. I took the knowledge I gained that day and tucked it into a dark place. A dark place that wouldn't have light shine upon it for 6 years.

Most people would find it horrifying to know that the first birthday gift my husband got me as my husband was a sewing machine. I believe my mother-in-law sighed when she heard the news.
It is actually one of my favorite gifts ever.

My birthday is in November. I didn't touch the thing until February.
Oops.

Then, in February, I got it into me that I needed to make my self a tote bag.
It was on from this point on.

I
could
not
stop.

As I scrolled through pinterest, I got more adventurous.
Next I was making bags of all sorts.
Then I started following my friends mom.
The quilt was reintroduced to my life.
I scrolled along the quilts and though to myself, "You can do this."
I knew my 23 year old brain was ready for this.

I pulled out some fabric and just started making half square triangles.
(I figured who could mess up sewing a straight line)
I now have a hideous lime green and purple chevron quilt top.
I think I will put it in a box and finish it in twenty years strictly out of novelty.

I finished my first quilt last Friday.
(I know it isn't finished in the picture)

I started the hashtagquilt Instagram, because my husband worked from home while I made the quilt top.
I had to be quiet.
I couldn't sing or swear or be silly.
Outloud.
I could be as silly as I wanted online.

I created hashtagquilt because I want other young women to think quilting is hip.
I want them to be frustrated with it, and I want them to love it.
I want them to be better at math.
I want them to take a risk on something old.
I want them to be confident.
I want them to realize that it is okay to be a lady who quilts and does other fun things.

Welcome to #quilt.
I hope you love it as much as I love you and I love quilting and life in general.

PS: My husband just said "You are liaring to me".
That is about as serious as it is going to get here.
